Our Story

A road worn fifteen feet deep

Much akin to our modern-day transportation system, the Old Natchez Trace was the commerce link between the mid-Atlantic states and the port of New Orleans.

From the late 1700s through the mid-1800s, untold numbers of Native Americans, traders, settlers, and soldiers traveled that road, wearing it down as much as 15 feet in spots where a soft sand base was prominent.

While the new Natchez Trace Parkway mimics the original Trace, the original ran through what is now downtown Houston.
